During the off-season, athletes of all sports work to enhance their skills for their upcoming season. I am no exception to this routine being a basketball player. In previous summers, I would attend college camps to practice drills and participate in summer leagues to be near the game. However, this previous summer, I decided that shedding extra weight would help me immensely rather then signing up for my usual leagues.
Camp Technique is no fat farm. I worked for six weeks to improve my agility, quickness, and endurance, while losing pounds that would make me lighter on my feet. This program is designed for people of all levels of physical activity. The trainers adjust each one-on-one personal session to accommodate to each person’s fitness ability. The boot camps at night are of reasonable sizes and grouped in a way that you are with people like yourself. However, you are assigned activities, such as cardio, to do on your own throughout the day. I think this element to the program is significant because it determines your success once you leave Camp Technique and how self-motivated one is. With my own experience, I challenged and competed with myself during particularly exercising requiring one’s own incentive.
When I arrived home after my six week enrollment at this program, it was time to begin fall workouts with my basketball teammates and coaches. I was nervous that I had made the wrong decision by not going to a basketball camp to develop my skills further, but after the first open-gym, I knew I had made the right decision. My coach was pleasantly surprised of the progress I had made in California and of my foot-speed and body control. In previous seasons, I would not be the one chosen to guard our opponent’s best player; however, this year, that changed. It was a rewarding feeling to be given the opportunity to shut down the best player on the other team. This was my goal for my senior season, and Camp Technique is the main reason I achieved it. It had made all of that hard work and sweat for numerous hours each day worth it.
Do not be fooled that this program is a fat farm from previous opinions on fitness and boot camps. Athletes train at Camp Technique, along with people of all physical fitness abilities. What makes it work efficiently is the staffs’ and trainers’ capability to mold their plans to each individual’s needs. For me, we worked with agility ladders, lateral movement exercises, and explosiveness to get my foot-work up to speed and in control. With this regiment, the trainers and I also worked on my strength by lifting. In order to keep a balanced workout, we did uncountable abdominal and core exercises which would help in my overall fitness. Endurance was built during morning runs on the beach and games such a continuous flag football. Camp Technique addresses every angle of physical training combined with correct portion and nutrition control. These elements together helped me prepare for my senior season and made it a successful one.
